Queen Victoria's love for her
dogs is legendary, and certainly her lovely tricolor, Dash, has to have
been among her favorites.
The first portrait of Dash was commissioned by Victoria's mother as a gift
for princess's seventeenth birthday in 1836. Victoria loved the painting,
and the artist, Sir Edwin Landseer, became a frequent visitor to court.
Victoria became queen in 1837, and it is reported that the first thing she
did after removing her coronation finery was to give Dash a bath!
